BallScore – Box Score

The Red Sox scored early, but failed to score often enough. The Orioles came back late, taking advantage of a weak Boston Bullpen. After the O’s scored on a solo home run Anthony Santander in the top of the first, the Red Sox answered with three. Bobby Dalbec led off with a HR then Xander Bogaerts singled and scored on Alex Verdugo’s one-out homer.

The Orioles added a single run when Chance Sisco hit one out in the second, but the BoSox got that run back on three singles in the bottom half. The next Inning Alex Verdugo led off with a single and scored on Jackie Bradley’s double for a 5-2 lead and knockout Baltimore’s starter John Means. Means pitched two-plus innings allowing five earned on nine hitsand one walk while striking out one.

The Orioles got one run back on a Pat Valaika Home in the top of four to cut the score to 5-3. Cedric Mullins greeted reliever Ryan Weber in the seventh with a triple and scored on Austin Hays’ single. Phillips Valdez pitched the eighth giving up a lead-off single by Ryan Mountcastle then a double by Renato Nunez to put the tying run on third and the winning run on second. After enticing the next two batters to go down swinging, Chance Sisco hit a hard grounder to short that Bogaerts couldn’t hand that allowed the tying run to score and Sisco to reach first. Cedric Mullins knocked in the go-ahead run before Austin Hays flew out to right and end the threat.

I mistakenly gave Cesar Valdez the Win and Shawn Armstrong should have received a Hold with Tanner Scott earning the save after allowing two one-out walks. It is late and It doesn’t matter that much to me. It was a fun game with a comeback win and I got to use a lot of relievers. I should have played the game earlier, then I wouldn’t have been too tired to make defensive substitutions, and maybe the Red Sox hold on to win? We’ll never know.
